Why Target The California Charter School Consumer Market?

Since 1992, the California Charter School System has grown exponentially. Charter schools are unique in that they govern their own budgets.  In addition, charter schools have an untapped consumer market of students, parents, administrators, teachers, and government entities.

Industry spending on advertising for children has exploded from $100 million in 1990 to over $50 billion.  According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 27.3% of the students of charter schools are African Americans compared to 16.9% percent in traditional public schools; 20.8% percent are of Hispanic origin, compared to 14.9% in traditional public schools, and 2.3% are Native Americans, compared to 1.2% in traditional schools.  A majority of all charter schools have a minority population of at least 41%.  These percentages dictate a significant buying power of all these groups of upward of $400 billion.
